Compare comuni

Choose a region and what matters to you. Each option is a rule over public data with its threshold stated, so you can see why a comune is on the list and why another is not. Then pick two to four comuni and compare them side by side. Already have comuni in mind? Add them by name.

Natural hazards

Each limit leaves out the comuni most exposed to a hazard. A lower level is better for you, but it describes the comune as a whole: it does not make any one house safe.

Earthquake

the comune's official seismic zone; zone 1 is the highest of four

Flood

how many of the comune's buildings stand in areas ISPRA maps for floods: level Low, Medium or High

Landslide

What Low, Medium, High and the zones mean

Earthquake: every comune is in one of four official zones. Zone 1 is where the strongest earthquakes are expected, zone 4 where they are least likely. Whether a house can withstand an earthquake depends on how it was built; a structural engineer can check it.

Flood: High means at least 5% of the comune's buildings are in the most frequent flood scenario (P3, a flood about every 20 to 50 years), or at least 25% in the medium one (P2, about every 100 to 200 years). Medium means at least 1% in P3 or 5% in P2. Low means less than that.

Landslide: High means at least 6% of the comune's buildings are in the two highest landslide hazard classes (P3 and P4). Medium means at least 2% there, or at least 1% in the highest class (P4). Low means less than that.

These figures describe each comune as a whole. Whether a particular plot lies in a flood or landslide zone is checked by a geometra on the river-basin authority's official PAI and PGRA maps.

Once you set a limit, a comune without an official figure is left out.
